Someone should really do this for porn…
May 31st, 2008 Posted in Online ThingsFound via a lifehacker.com post on my GoogleReader - readatwork.com. This is hilarious. For people who are bored at work and want to read a book, this site pops up and is designed to mimic the Windows desktop, complete with folders, a network connection tab, Start menu, everything, just to make it look like you're really looking at Windows. The books themselves open up as Powerpoint presentations - they even have charts and graphs and are arranged in the way a PPT file would be. I mean... it's ridiculous... but, also brilliant. Now if only they'd beef up their selection.
While I'm pimping links, I should mention that lifehacker.com in general has some really nifty stuff, especially if you're a Mac user, but for Windows people as well.
Additionally, I feel the need to extol upon the virtues of having a GoogleReader. If you have a gmail account, that means you also have a google.com account. This means that when you're signed into gmail, you can go to the google.com page and in the upper right hand corner, you'll see a link for igoogle. This is your personal google homepage. You can put anything you want on it. Links, news, games, daily quotes from Stephen Colbert - anything you want. You also have a GoogleReader, with which you can subscribe to feeds from any site that publishes an RSS feed... including word-vomit.org [shameless plug]!
Of course, there many ways to subscribe to RSS feeds, but I find that GoogleReader's integration with my igoogle page puts everything right where I want it. The fact that I can include my reader on the google homepage, and then can scroll through, pop open updates in mini-windows, decide if I want to visit the actual site, and close it if I don't. It's a great way to keep up with news, industry, web comics, and all kinds of random crap, so check it out!
