Define “Exotic”
June 1st, 2009 Posted in Bad Food, Current NewsApparently, China's health authorities are having a bit of a problem with the latest trend in exotic Chinese cuisine. Snake Bite Chicken, a dish prepared using a chicken which was bitten to death by a poisonous snake, is causing a stir among the locals - inhumane, but OH, so tasty, seems to be the general consensus.
Ever since the surfacing of a video showing the preparation of the dish, from start to finish, online debates and discussion between restaurants and Chinese health officials and animal rights activists has been going on.
"A week of intense internet discussion has reached the near-unanimous decision that it is cruel to kill live chickens by forcing deadly snakes to bite them repeatedly."
Yes. One full week. All of these people needed THAT MUCH TIME to ALMOST unanimously agree on this. I wonder how long it took for them to decide that monkey brains "scooped from live animal" and deer fetus soup were also just a teensy bit barbaric.
It also kind of makes me wonder how true those dog and cat stereotypical jokes really are. Hmm.
