Good news, Manhattanites! The McDonald's at 14th and 1st has installed a brand new walk-through window!

This might be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. I don't get it. Even if it's for people on the go... it's not saving you any time! Okay, so you don't have to walk that 15 extra feet to the counter... the person getting your food still does, so now you're at the mercy of their slow asses.

I don't know... maybe Mickey D's is having trouble competing with the new trends in fast food - how can you really top the Whopper Bar or the KFC Double Down, after all. A walk-through window seems like such an odd choice though. What's the purpose? To save you 15 extra steps? I mean, I used to live right near there, so I can say for a fact that this is not the cleanest McDonald's establishment, but still... it's not so bad that you need to stand outside at a window to get your food.

And apparently, people have actually been lining up outside for this thing. The counter is like... 15 steps away! GO INSIDE!

Well guess what! The wait (and the lives of many) is almost over! The KFC Double Down is coming soon to a chicken spot near you! They've even created a special countdown website so you can wait and watch and salivate until the day arrives and you can run to the local KFC and cram one of these bad boys down your throat.

Even with the bacon and cheese, it somehow manages to have fewer calories than the large size Popcorn Chicken, which is kind of impressive.

Today is, apparently, a friend food and bacon day here at Word Vomit. Enjoy!

I had never seen them sold like this. I was always used to them already being cut and packaged. As a matter of fact, they actually sold the package ones right next to these.

They kinda look like some funky pot plant , or even a rack of ribs?

I really don't know where I am going with this article. I had a fascinating moment in my life with a bushel of sprout and I thought I would share it with you guys.

Starbucks Coffee Company will attempt to improve their Gold Membership plan starting on Dec. 26th of this year. I don't know how much better this plan will be for the old Gold Card members, being that they are terminating the 10% off discount. In its place Starbucks will introduce a new 3 level plan giving customer more benefits each time the make a purchase. Instead of a $25 dollar membership fee, the My Starbucks Rewards program will now cost members absolutely nothing to start. Older Gold card members will be enrolled into the program automatically and started at the top level. Also, each current Gold Card member will receive a grace period ( Till January 5th, 2010) for their 10% discount.

For more information check out this Starbucks link explaining the new system.

- My Starbucks Reward Link -

My suggestion is to take advantage of your discount now. Even with the free syrup offer and free regular coffee refills, you still lose about 2 dollars a week.

(Calculations base on a 7 day scale and with specialty drinks that don't fall into the deal categories.)

According to an article featured in this morning's Metro, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine has published a study on organic food, with findings that show no significant health benefit to buying/eating organic over conventionally produced foods.

I have to admit, this news made me smirk... just a little bit. Let me tell you about my experience with organic groceries.

So last year, I was at the market picking up a few things to cook for dinner. I wasn't paying attention to the area of the produce section I was in and accidentally grabbed a bunch of organic broccoli instead of the regular old cheap, pesticide ridden stalk. I realized my mistake at the register, but it was already rung and I didn't feel like making a big fuss and going to switch it out. Besides, everyone says organic is better for you, right?

I take my fancy broccoli home and start my dinner prep, my other veggies were all washed and chopped, I'm getting ready to wash and chop the broccoli... singing that Dana Carvey "Choppin' Broccolaaaaay" song, you know... the standard broccoli cooking prep routine. I'm running the broccoli under the water, and I notice a little brown spot on it, so I go to wash it away, but then see another one. And another one... and some non-broccoli matching green ones... and, you see where I'm going with this. After I shattered every window in my apartment building with my blood curdling screams, threw out everything in my kitchen that the broccoli had touched, and took a shower, I went online to research "MASSIVE INSECT INFESTATION IN ORGANIC BROCCOLI" and found out that my broccoli stalk was suffering from Aphid Infestation. All of the organic food sites I came across seemed to think of this as no big deal... "just boil the broccoli in water and then scoop the dead aphids out of the pot" was actually the advice given on one site.

Let me tell you all - I have not bought fresh broccoli since that day. I AM SCARRED. And that's my favorite vegetable!

I would SO MUCH PREFER to wash away some pesticides than to wash away a COLONY OF INSECTS from my food. And what if you're not cooking it right away? What if I'd stuck that shit in my veggie bin with whatever else I'd had in there and THEY'D MIGRATED.

Listen, I have a terrible fear of insects. It's awful. It's irrational. It's not your normal, every day, "eww, a bug," but still, you've gotta admit, this is gross. It's apparently quite common in organic produce and I have actually seen the aphids on more veggies in organic sections of supermarkets since then, too. Give me the chemicals. Spray that shit 'til it glistens and sprouts an arm, but keep the fucking bugs away from me.

I told a few people what had happened and how I'd never buy organic again, and some of them were like "oh yeah, that's normal, but it's so much healthier to eat that way" or "you're swearing off a really healthy alternative because of one bad experience." So this news about it not being such a health benefit after all? Yeah... that's nice to hear. Enjoy your aphid salad, people. I'll be over here, chowing down on my insect free, compound-chemical-bathed greens.
